For today's DIY, we will learn how to make a simple milk and coffee drink, called a latte.
For this process, we will need:
First, turn on your espresso machine. The "on" switch is usually located on the right hand side of the machine towards the back. Make sure to switch on the steamer as well. Wait until the machine heats up to 200°F.
Make sure to use beans made especially for espresso pulling. Grind about 18 grams of coffee, using a scale to weigh.
Once the portafilter is taken out of the grinder, press down into the portafilter with a coffee tamper with about 30lbs of force for a few seconds.
Now it's time to pull a lovely shot of espresso! For this step, just set the portafilter into the espresso machine and lock it in place. Next, pull the lever up and wait as the water gets pushed through the portafilter. This will take about 20-30 seconds for a single shot. Once the shot is done, take the shot of espresso and pour it into a cup.
To turn this into a latte, we need to steam the milk. Pour the milk into a frothing pitcher and then submerge the froth assistor deep into the milk. Turn the steamer on and let it do its thing. Steam your milk until the temperature reaches around 140°F. Be careful not to burn your milk!
Go ahead and pour the milk into the cup with espresso and enjoy!
